Dear Mr. Libin:

I am glad to hear of your interest in Artificial Intelligence (we abbreviate
it A.I.), especially when this interest stems from what seems like an
unlikely source. Enclosed are three things: a somewhat out-of-date
description of this laboratory, a long review of Weizenbaum's book, and a
list of our reports.

Your letter does not contain enough information to suggest either your
qualifications or how your interests mesh with ours. Besides that, we are
rather broke this year. Therefore, the best I can do is offer you an
unpaid summer internship for this coming summer. If you can afford to
take it, I am sure you will learn a lot because our research is very
active during the summer. The dates would be up to you, but less than
six weeks would not be useful. You should let us know well in advance
what your decision is.
